A Guide to Publishing in Britain and Europe

Everything a Canadian writer needs to know about the UK publishing sector.

Are you a Canadian literary artist? Do you write genre (speculative) fiction, poetry or non-fiction? Then you may find yourself struggling to get published in Canada. Why? Because our publishing sector is small. Our major publishers are owned by foreign entities and our publishing industry prefers to publish literary fiction. Canadian writers working in other literary forms often struggle to get published or recognized in Canada. I hear it from writers of all ages, all skill levels, all the time.

I'm an advocate for Canadian writers seeking markets to publish their work. Canadians have brilliant stories to tell and there are plenty of international opportunities to get published. The world wants to hear our stories. But how do we get our work to international readers? That's what this course will teach you.

A Guide to Publishing in Britain and Europe is the first step is gaining a fundamental understanding of the publishing industry beyond our borders. This course focuses on the British and European markets (more on the US later). You will learn the 'business' of international bookselling, how publishers operate abroad, the landscape of international publishing, and resources you can access on your road to publication.
